September 26th, 2011

It has been expected that demand for pharmaceutical packaging in US will increase and it will witness an annual growth of 5.5%. In 2014 the demand will reach to $18.4 billion. The increase is due to upgraded regulations and standards concerning infection control, barrier protection, drug dispensing errors, drug diversion and patient drug compliance. Concern for these will further boost the growth of high quality containers and related accessories.

Pharmaceutical pouches will have a greater market share than ever and same will be the story of prefillable inhalers. Reason behind this enormous growth is the increasing number of asthmatic and allergic patients. Also the sterling growth has been foreseen for vials and prefillable syringes because of the associated changes in biotechnology. New therapies and innovations that are regularly occurring in the research arena are the causes of this growth.

Pharmaceutical packaging for oral drugs will still be done in plastic or glass bottles. Also plastic bottles are used to keep the capsules over 50 gm and other medicines. Among all these, blister packaging will gain momentum because of the improved label content and its adaptability. Pharmaceutical packaging for topical medicines will remain tubes because of their aesthetic and barrier properties.
